argument The smoke is one of the elements of the ambient. We’ve learned that in our architectural school making thus order in the world as it is seen by the architects. And that is smoke. It is sometimes nice, when someone smokes pipe or when we make a roast, other times supportable, diluted and ephemeral on the streets or in the offices where we live. It is a commonplace; it’s trivialized by the fact that we are swallowing it every day. A minor evil, too small too deserve the effort to avoid it, one in a series of omnipresent imperfections of the world we are living in. it doesn’t count when we take fundamental decisions, when we love, when we build, when we create. “When the architect stands in front of his drawing board…” he forgets of the smoke from around. It is so powerful the attractively of the shapes, so dazzling the science we use to manipulate functions that every phenomena that cannot be formalized becomes marginal in front of the absolute imperatives of the architectural thinking. We’ve learned that we are the masters of firmitas, utilitas, and venustas. The smoke is just a little unpleasant problem that is going to be solved together with the others solved by the science which the master of the plans uses when he designs houses and subsequently, as the architects believe in many cases, designs other people’s life.  “Architecture is frozen music”, “the poetry of concrete”, a half-rabbit half-men resulted from the mating of art and science, “the oldest occupation of man”.
